In October, six members of our Chapter attended the EAPA World Conference, which was held in Denver, Colorado this year. One day it was 76 degrees, sunny and warm; the next it was 20 degrees and snowing! What fun we all had, romping in the snow and taking lots and lots of photos! And then there was the dancing … but enough of that!
The focus of the conference this year was on critical incident response and the need to find meaning in the aftermath of tragic events. Emphasis was put on the importance of a soulful connectedness in the workplace, through a keener awareness of our own as well as one another’s beliefs and needs. The spiritual aspect of health and how that impacts the workplace was often emphasized in the sessions I attended.
As always, there were many great workshops, coupled with the opportunity to meet stimulating colleagues from around the globe. One of the most valuable times for me was a new lunchtime session this year called “Common Interest Discussion Groups”. This gave many of us an opportunity to brainstorm with others who shared our concerns in specific areas. We exchanged business cards and, since my return, I have heard from everyone in my group.
All in all, there was much intensity, collaboration, and camaraderie.
For those who missed Denver and for those didn’t, there’s Baltimore next year!
