"The Cost of Conflict in Organizations"
Presented by Al Restivo, PhD and Lee Stoltzfus, PhD

Presenters will provide an understanding of conflict, its outcomes and how conflict coaching can create equilibrium in organizations that are experiencing conflict situations which disrupt smooth organizational and team functioning.

In this interactive session, the following will be considered:
- Drs. Restivo and Stoltzfus will provide insights into their methods of resolving conflicts.
- They will talk about the individual conflict coaching and team building methods they employ to create cohesiveness of groups as well as getting to the root causes of conflict so that they can be resolved to the satisfaction of all parties and the entire organization.
- This presentation will demonstrate that when conflict is managed constructively it can have significant positive benefits for the employees and the organization in terms of improved morale, enhanced productivity and innovation, and increased bottom line.

Dr. Al Restivo, PhD

Dr. Al Restivo, president and chief executive officer of Oaktree Associates Inc. earned a Masters degree in Business and Organizational Leadership from Goddard College and a doctorate in organizational psychology. His doctoral dissertation is entitled: “A Comparison of Leadership Behaviors and Practices and their relationship to Occupational Stress and Job Satisfaction in Organizations”. In addition to his work at Oaktree in organizational and management development, which includes extensive course development and training, he also serves as an adjunct professor at Azusa Pacific University and Cal State University, Los Angeles. From 1996 to 2002 he served as a professor at the Southern California campuses of the University of Phoenix where he taught organizational behavior at the undergraduate and graduate levels, organizational communication, management, supervision and leadership, interpersonal relationship skills, critical thinking and decision making, and marketing.
A training and organizational development professional with over 30 years of experience, Dr. Restivo served as Corporate Director of Training for Avery Dennison Corporation where he was responsible for the training and development of over 15,000 employees worldwide for the $4 billion international company. |
His professional affiliations include the Professional Coaches and Mentors Association, the American Society for Training and Development, the American Counseling Association, and The Employee Assistance Professionals Association. He has also served as past Chairman of L.A. District 3 of the PIHRA (Professionals in Human Resources Association). He served on the board of directors of PIHRA for four years. Dr. Restivo is also an active member of EAPA (Employee Assistance Professionals Association-Los Angeles Branch).

D. Lee Stoltzfus, PhD

Dr. Stoltzfus is Senior Vice President and co-founder of Oaktree Associates, Inc. He has been a practicing licensed clinical psychologist and organizational development consultant for over 20 years.
A well-known and respected educator, Dr. Stoltzfus held a National Teaching Fellowship in the Department of Communications at Simons College in Boston before coming to California where he taught in the Social Science Department at Pasadena City College for five years. He has since served as Clinical Professor at the Fuller Graduate School of Psychology where he earned both an M.A. and a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology. He also earned an M.A. in Theology from the Fuller Theological Seminary and an M.S. degree in Communications and Public Relations from Boston University.
Dr. Stoltzfus specializes in organizational development in such diverse topics as Stress Management for Health and Productivity, Self-Esteem for Peak Performance, and How to Build Winning Teams. In collaboration with Dr. Restivo, he has developed programs for positive behavior change in Customer Service and Time Management. He is a highly skilled counselor specializing in the administration of personality assessment instruments with emphasis on professional individualized feedback and personal coaching. |
Dr. Stoltzfus' focus is on assisting business and government employees and managers to recognize their temperaments, personalities and styles so that they can create significant positive behavior changes which lead to enhanced effectiveness at work and at home. |
