 Alan Downs, Ph.D. |
Alan Downs, Ph.D. is a clinical psychologist and the CEO of Michael’s House, a drug and alcohol residential treatment center in Palm Springs, California.
His twenty years of working in mental health and substance abuse are reflected in his eight books in both leadership and self-help. His current book, The Velvet Rage: Overcoming the Pain of Growing Up Gay in a Straight Man’s World, Da Capo Press, 2005 has been the #1 nationally bestselling gay and lesbian self-help book for the past four years. His work has been published in over 7 languages.
Dr. Downs is an accomplished speaker with many media credits, including: The Oprah Winfrey Show, Good Morning America, CBS Sunday Morning, The Today Show, NBC Nightly News, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The New Yorker, The San Francisco Chronicle, Morning Edition (National Public Radio), to name just a few.

About Michael’s House Treatment Center
Michael’s House is a drug and alcohol treatment center for individuals with co-occurring mental health and substance abuse problems. This center, located in a classic, mid- century Palm Springs facility, offers a complete continuum of care and many learning tools that allow each client to build a lasting foundation of recovery.
Michael’s House offers services that include detox, residential care, and extended care. The program is a strong, evidence-based treatment process that is provided by nationally recognized experts who take the time to individualize the program to each client’s needs. It is recommended that clients come for 90 days to fully benefit from all aspects of the program.
This exceptional program includes individual therapy, family therapy, AA Support Groups, lectures by well-known experts on addiction, and daily group therapy. In addition, Michael’s House provides EMDR for trauma, equine therapy and dialectical behavior therapy. |
